Following the news of our four new hires earlier this year, Talis Capital is thrilled to announce three key promotions within our investment team. Tom Williams has been promoted to Partner, with Beatrice Aliprandi and Kirill Tasilov both taking the role of Principal.
Over the past 12 months, Talis Capital completed 17 investments and has welcomed new companies to our portfolio like Construyo, Bleach London and DayDayCook, as well as later-stage companies like Carta. We’ve also supported the growth of existing portfolio companies like Onfido, Darktrace, Pricefx, Plum Guide, Eporta and Narrativ. Talis Capital has continued at its $100m per year pace, backing companies that are building tech infrastructure, tech that changes how we live and tech for the new generation.
The promotions come at an integral time where Talis looks on to 2021 to raise its next fund. Beatrice Aliprandi has been promoted to Principal, having started at Talis in 2018 as Senior Analyst following on from three years at Jefferies Investment Bank. In her time at Talis, Beatrice has sourced and led deals in construction marketplace Construyo, digital hospital Medbelle and hair brand Bleach London. Kirill Tasilov has also been promoted to Principal, having joined Talis as Analyst in 2018 after graduating from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Kirill has focused on consumer internet and enterprise software at Talis, leading deals in real estate investment platform IMMO, publishing marketplace Reedsy, and and Zyper, a software company that allows brands to connect with its real fans.
Tom Williams has been promoted to Partner. Having joined Talis in November 2013 as Analyst, Tom has been critical to the growth of the company and the development of our investment thesis, overseeing deals including Darktrace and Onfido, and working closely with companies including iwoca, Premfina and Learning People.
Speaking on his promotion, Tom attributes his success to having been fortunate to be able to spend time with and learn from Talis’s inspiring group of entrepreneurs who back the funds. “These people are reshaping industries and having support in their capacity as LPs has been extremely valuable to me. An extension of that is seeing those same inspirational qualities in the entrepreneurs who allow us to partner with them on their mission. I feel privileged to act as side kick to some of the most driven and smartest people you could ever hope to meet.”
Tom continued: “Talis has evolved beyond all recognition in my time here, and I’m proud to have contributed to that. Seven years is really not long in venture and despite the obvious macro headwinds, it feels like we’re on the cusp of an exciting few years for everyone involved with Talis. Our team is stronger than it’s ever been – seeing the continued growth in my colleagues and the firm over the coming years will give me immense satisfaction.”
Vasile Foca, co-founder and managing partner, said: “It has been great to see how Tom, Beatrice and Kirill have matured into seasoned venture investors at Talis. There are two key factors to their success – the first is their individual abilities and skills they’ve developed. The second one is the culture at Talis that allows our team to take on as much responsibility and as early as they can carry, and this has proven to be a great model for right talent that we have sourced. We are immensely proud of the talent that we see and cultivate at Talis, and these promotions represent the real dedication and hard work that every individual brings to their roles, as well as the progression and growth that Talis has seen over the past few years. ”
Matus Maar, co-founder and managing partner, said: “Talis’ self-driven culture gives opportunities to its team at every level to take on their own deals and build investor competencies, and seeing Beatrice and Kirill run with this opportunity has been hugely gratifying. Tom has been a critical figure at Talis from its early days, so being able to reward his massive commitment to the business is fulfilling and well-earned.
“The dedication from Tom, Beatrice and Kirill has been critical to the success of the company in recent years. Huge congratulations to the team for the well-deserved promotions – Talis is better equipped than ever to build on its mission to find, fund and support the world’s most ambitious entrepreneurs.”
